Default My BRG 1.8T About To Depart Methinks

Having run this one for about three years, love the colour, I had to have a go at the head gasket in March. Clearly no professional, it has gone again and at the suggestion of a mechanic member, I have opted for an elastomar gasket this time.
Saw the weather forecast and took the opportunity to have a go at it from Sunday afternoon. Finally got the head off lunchtime today and found that there are sufficient marks around the liner seating to suggest that this may be the end.
I think a skim would have take too much off.
Yes I could get another engine, but as I don't have the facilities to change it, I have put the new gasket in and almost finished the rebuild but now torn as to run it 'til dead, or flog it.

planenut------location Heathrow.

I remember going across there, circa 1948, on the top of an open double decker bus with my father.

Virtually nothing but a few fields of vegetables and some wooden huts.----

All up and running, but will give a longer run later. Obviously, evidence of head gasket failure takes time to surface.

Well I took her out this afternoon for a run, it seems that I've managed to connect everything correctly, and all went well.

Topped up the water and added some more oil this evening, so will check again in the morning.

Well I took her to Fairford for RIAT and she performed very well. Last week, took her to Pembroke and covered 622 miles. All went very well, but there is a little loss of coolant with a bit of a pong, not petrol, in the expansion tank, and I did notice some times that the fan was running when switched the ignition off, for about ten seconds.

I'm sure all your efforts will pay off, and your 1.8 will run great.
