Question Rpm on idle

Hi. I've read some posts about idle speed but they are all about diesel. My 2.5 v6 petrol auto has 600 rpm when warm and around 1000 when cold. When warm i can feel vibrations on driovers seat and floor. I think 600rpm is too low. Can it be adiusted somehow or something may be wrong with the engine. Car runs fine when i'm driving.
any ideas?

According to the owner's handbook, idle should be 750 +/- 50 rpm for the V6. So it does sound like your's is a bit low, hence the vibrations felt.

Regardless of what "Mr Haynes" or owners handbook says I think all V6's are around the 600 RPM mark on tickover.

Mine is, other people I have spoken to, theres are, and the number you see for sale with a picture of the dash at tickover showing around 600rpm.

Check for engine mount wear or exhaust catching bodywork.

I believe tickover can be adjusted via T4 but you would have to check.

I stand to be corrected on this but I can only speak as I find

There is a posting on the forum about the T4 by Keith and the adjustment is only done on the T4 (as far as I know)

Below is a link to Keith's T4 Screen Dumps It does mention the tick over on one of the pictures, you will have to go through it to find it!!

Didn't realise it but Keiths post relates to the four cylinder Diesel, not the KV6, As noted by OP. Don't know if that makes a difference?

Thanks for reply. Seems like it should be like that 600rpm. Never had rover before. My last car Lexus ls400 4.0 v8 had 500rpm but no vibrations, smooth as silk. This engine must be different. 62k on clock is it possible that engine mounts need to be replaced?

Your welcome to have a look under my bonnet for any differences we can see, mines a 99 2.5 auto. I'm in Leeds and fairly quiet tomorrow. Let me know where you are via PM and put the kettle on. we could make sure your plenums are clear at the same time.

Check the rear lower engine stabliser mount for wear, other than that, my 1.8T idles at an INDICATED 600rpm and that shudders a little bit.
