How much ethanol in E5 / E10?
Chap in Yorkshire decided to find out..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkTrdE9JAhA Seems the only petrol sold in the UK which is ethanol free is Gulf and BP premiums. |

If you know the percentages then sometimes premium fuel is actually the same price or possibly even cheaper than regular, assuming you want actual petroleum rather than St Greta's moonshine.
For instance three Texaco's, which is 7.5% and 2.5%, I popped into the other night were 142.9 vs 169.9, 143.9 vs 159.9 and 143.9 vs 152.9. The last of those, if I've done my sums correctly, works out to the premium being roughly the same price. As half the cost is tax, double the percentage difference ( so 10% in this case for Texaco) and multiply the regular by that. Personally I always look for Gulf though BP premium does seem to make rather an epic noise. All the advice out there is to avoid premium fuels, which I happily flout as the cars both seem much happier on them. Interesting too that some of the regulars are the equal of the other brand's premiums in terms of alcohol content. |
