The amount of money she has been awarded, really is more then most people can spend.

There advert was "quite good" people got a better deal paying cash then trading in, perhaps true but if they sold privately they would have had more cash.

Can/should we legislate against such firms?

You wouldn't

To be fair to WeBuy what they offer does depend a lot on the car - I took a Mini One to them recently after my daughter had been offered £700 trade in for it by Arnold Clarke on a new car. For a 2 owner 79,000 mile car with virtually mint bodywork and mechanicals and that still has dealer backup I thought that was a bit of a joke. After seeing it in person WeBuy actually offered me £1150 cash for it. As it was I ended up keeping it for the Mrs and I gave daughter £1000 for it but......

Obviously if you offer them a Rover (or any other old unfashionable car with limited parts backup) they will offer you peanuts though

Our office is next door to a webuyanycar office so there are 5-10 cars coming in for valuations most days. A lot of 3-4 yr old cars which are probably on the end of a pcp deal which negates them selling privately without much hassle due to having outstanding finance. People tied to finance agreements they can't afford I imagine and this service gives them a way out. I don't mind them making profit, just wouldn't sell them a car myself unless I tried everything else first....

Inquired about buying one I fancied parked next to my ZT-T a few weeks ago and they said they just disappear off into the BCA network and he couldn't even tell me which auction house it would end up at.
