Default A puzzler for the tech gurus, not MGR

My aunt has a Fiesta petrol auto,63 plate, she said it has been behaving strangely pdf late. Losing power when driving, and the other day she selected drive, and it went backwards, tried again after returning to park, same thing, switched off left for a couple of minutes, started up and the throttle pedal moved by itself , increasing the revs without her touching it. When she selected drive the third time ,all was ok.
Its been to the garage, and they could find no fault, anyone come across anything like this before? Before anyone says take it back to point of purchase, it was bought from a family member, who has been a trader for over 50 years, but is now retired and well into his 80s, . The local Ford dealer aren't interested in looking at it either.

I'm wondering if it's got a separate gearbox ecu, like so many do these days.
It could be a glitch in it somewhere...... or water!

Only a thought

No idea at all, could it be possibly driver error Richard?

Throttle pedal moving by itself??????

It should be possible for someone who has ford IDS to run a diagnostic on the car, but it all sounds very strange to me

It will be a dual clutch computer controlled gearbox. Is the vehicle equiped with park assist or the self park option ? As Brian suggest get it checked out, particularly for any recorded fault codes.

Not that I know of Nigel, its been on a diagnostic machine already which showed no fault. Brian, Ford arent interested, they are just fitters remove and replace, diagnostic work is beyond them . She has RAC coming tomorrow. MY first thought was e c u fault, water ingress, having had a 75 diesel . Anyone know of a Ford specialist in north east other than A Clark or Jennings?

PS definitely not driver error, she os VERY compus mentus

I do know that slightly earlier models had various auto box issues but I would certainly agree that water ingress or loom chaffing could very certainly be prime suspects and of course, a battery disconnect is always worth a try with any computer based system. Turn it off and on again can work wonders. Check all the fuse boxes for dampness
