Good morning Derek

We set off last Wednesday to a remote region of Kenya, past the British Army base in Laikipia. On the way, we caught sight of the squaddies out in the bush doing their training and manoeuvres, they looked so young. It was unbearably hot and dry. When you served for HM in Suez, you know how hot and challenging it can get. For us, it was lovely to get away and to get back to nature

How are you Derek, how is Lilian?

My father served in the Suez also He was in 2 Para at the time, I'm actually named after his commanding officer. Anthony Farrah Hockley. Bravest man my dad ever met.

Ooh I've just noticed that I've only got 5 posts left to reach 1000. I'll have to think of something really profound to say.

Good morning Tony We stayed with friends who have a small ranch out in the bush. The only comms, is an emergency radio. No phone signal or internet. On the plus side, the weather is nice and the wild animals roam freely. I read your post about your dad being in 2 Para and serving in Suez

Certain elements resent the role of the armed forces, but if it wasn't for people like your Dad, Derek, my Dad and the many who fought, who gave their lives, we would not be enjoying the freedom we have today. I have the greatest respect for them all.

I did post up last week that I was going away, but with the hundreds of posts it was easily overlooked, no problem

We go camping in a tent out in the bush off the grid from time to time. I have told Jessica that I want to go camping in June in the massai mara to celebrate my 60th birthday

What are your plans for the summer?
