These noises are annoying when you have checked everything but it’s still there.
One thing to eliminate is noises within the cabin - I remove everything from the door pockets and under the seats and see if that sorts it. The reason being I had a clunk on my old Discovery - I checked everything - spent ages tracking down a fault that didn’t exist! What caused the clunk was a WD40 can under the passenger seat rolling about. I was both relieved and mightily annoyed with myself for assuming the worst when the real problem was a simple one. Also it was my son in the passenger seat that realised the clunk was under his seat. Odd noises in cars travel to odd places!! |

Finally found the culprit. Took it to my local mechanic and after about an hour of trying to make the sound happen they finally nailed it down to the hydramount, top engine mount beiing slightly loose and moving on the aluminium spacer block under the mount (diesels have them) which was moving slightly when the engine was under load or any movement back or forward making a clunk which felt like it was in the floor pan.
Tightened the hydramount down hard and all is well. !! As a side note , had the “check engine” light coming on and off at odd times driving yesterday. Found a thread on this issue, turned out it was a bad connection on the electical plug to the fuel filter.Cleaned the plug and all is fine. |

Nice one. Perseverance pays off in the end, glad you've found the culprit

Good to hear you've sorted it, and for letting us know what it was.
I wish everyone would post how they've resolved things as it can be useful to the rest of us.
