Parking Brake Inoperative on one side Offside

Okay my 75 failed it’s MOT today and the offside Parking Brake is inoperative how do have to take the calliper off or is there a way around it

Caliper off, rear disc off and have a look inside Thomas, I’ll bet one or both of the retaining pins have pulled through the backplate.

Same problem here only I can't get the caliper mounting bolts undone to see what's going on inside. 13mm ring spanner starting slipping. No shortage of Plus Gas !
Presumably I should be able to see from the other side if the pins have pulled through. Would a garage with an impact wrench be able to shift the bolts?

Nope - not much in the way of clearance to get the rattle gun in and if you have started to round them off then all they will probably do is finish the job.

Either a surface drive socket, an Irwin extractor or using a hammer and chisel would be worth a go if Ronnie's suggestion doesn't work.

The hammering on can also work wonders even if you don't have a 1/2" socket - always worth giving the bolt head a good few clumps with a lump hammer and blind punch before attempting to undo it. The shock load more often than not loosens the rust enough to get the bolt moving when you get a spanner on it.

A set of these will help you remove the caliper bolts, shallow ones are the best.

Usually the backplates are to blame - the pins pull through, and allow the shoes to move around and out of position.

We have complete backplates containing shoes and all fixings etc - they're quite expensive, but are a good way to resolve the issue for the long-term.
