The point is that it is not worth much at all if it has been through the insurance process and is now deemed a CAT N. It is irrelevant if it was for a scratched bumper or a heavily stoved in rear end.

Obviously if it was in a crash and declared a write off, then that will affect its value.

If it is a nice well sorted car with a modest mileage as it appears, then why not? Has anyone actually seen the car before they are passing judgements or just simply exclaiming ‘how much’ based on their uncles, cousins mate what bought one for 500 pounds m8 last year and was a Connie with 10k on the clock and the owner couldn’t sell it.

As the cars are now either at or approaching their second decade on the road, isn’t it time we actually evaluated them based on the quality of the example in the way people do with classic cars, rather than plucking arbitrary figures out of the air.

It’s vital that buyers take a good look underneath. My concern at that age would be the state of the sills and all 4 rear suspension arms.
It’s sheer folly to pay £3k for a car that needs £500 spent immediately. I’m somewhat biased now as I’m pulling away from buying older cars. Too many jobs to do. Yes I’ve probably gone a bit lazy but chasing rust and rot is not my thing right now. 30 years ago I would have relished a challenge and the satisfaction of a good job.

Get orf. Your going soft in your dotage. Nothing better than rolling around under a car in freezing temperatures.lol.

I've got a tent covering my car Dave, it's quite nice not to be snowed on at this time of year

But of course I'm from up north where it's a canny bit colder than Brum

That's all well and good but I defy you to find an insurance company who would value a 15 year old Cat N 75 at just under £3k. The fact the car has been written off makes it scrap value only. How do you stand cover-wise if some plum then dents a wing and door in the car park?

I think the incredulity is directed towards the seller as it is blatantly obvious they are sticking the arm in big time, appreciate everyone has to make a living and they have overheads but come on, at £2k they'd still be making a tidy profit.
You'd struggle to sell that car, in that spec. in perfect non written off category for £3k.

From a collectors point of view a base model with steel wheels would probably have an element of rarity about it. Practically all facelift 75's on sale nowadays seem to be either Connoisseur or Contemporary models.

But yes, its a bit pricey.

Could always go for this one instead?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-Rove...0AAOSwdstf1JnA

I especially like the final part of the advert.

Free delivery as a gesture of goodwill. Oh go on then.

I know I shouldn't be running prices down, but this does seem a tad on the steep side for a 16 year old rover estate.

from up north perhaps, did you move south and soften up ...................... a tent??????!!!!!! Just wipe the snow off with your hands, then take your t-shirt off, dry the inside of glass then wipe down the outside. Your body heat will then dry the t-shirt - it takes the creases out too
