i recollect reading the only reason the under trays were installed had somthing to do with suppressing external engine noise levels.
The only issue is if you have any sort of oil or coolant leaks you never know about them until its got really bad as the tray hides the issue as well it soaks up oil etc.

I have also been told by a friend in the industry that an undertray aids the aerodynamic properties of cars, especially at motorway-type speeds.
Manufacturers fit them as a cheap way to improve their models MPG figures, even if only slightly - it all helps.

I highly doubt you will find a vehicle being sold new today that doesn't have an undertray fitted from the factory.

I've got one coming here, I'm actually going to do a bit of an experiment with my white 75. It will be getting a clutch before the end of the month, and after I'm going to do some extra sound deadening under the bonnet and also with the under tray.

Found some brilliant material recemmended to me by a local group of boat owners, and it's idea for the bottom of the engine area.

I too have bought some material. I'll fit it to my new undertray and probably under the bonnet too.

Can you share details of this attenuation 'material'?

Its called Glassmat is what I'm looking at for under the bonnet, and then they are going to find me a large sheet of fire Retardant Acoustic Foam.

I think they said it was an inch thick so I'm concerned it might be too deep, however if I can find the manufacturer Prehaps I can get something thinner.

Will update or do a video when I figure it all out.

I use a pump(tube down the dipstick tube)
Saves taking it off,and yes,it does suck it all out.

Never did understand why the 75 was not fitted with an access panel in the undertray for draining the oil - there was one on the 45 ?

More than likely the "C" word . . . . cost.
