Do I repair or weigh it in?
Hi all,
We have a 2003 MG ZT-T Cdti automatic. Trophy blue with Alcantra trim. My wife's car for 4 years but she no longer does the mileage and has a 4x4. It is now surplus to requirements and has no MOT. Good points: The front tyres are new New full exhaust Near rear disks, pads and handbrake shoes New under bonnet diesel pump and filter Bad points: Needs welding to rear of n/s sill for MOT front lower ball joint needs replacing for MOT Front corner of bonnet bubbling Has various parking scrapes on it Nearly 200,000 miles Currently smokes on overrun.(didn't when laid up in December 2021) Bonnet release cable needs replacing. Have them just no time to do) Question is, with the above MOT work has been priced at £350 plus parts, is it worth doing? Would I be better off selling as is? Should I weigh it in? I look forward to your advice. Kind regards Clive |

Not really the best advice but only you can make that decision. Without a test it's worth scrap value unless you break it but if you don't have time to fix it then I guess you don't have time to break it. Always a difficult decision but what else can you buy for£300ish that you know the history of?

If it's surplus to requirements then I'd get rid.
There's not too many of the general public who'd contemplate buying a car with 200K. If it was a BMW or Merc you might but (at the risk of being skinned alive ) a Rover? How about offering it as a freebie or some nominal sum to someone on here if they collect? And no, it wouldn't be me. Good Luck. |

As it stands it has little appeal to any prospective buyer.--If you get the work done it MIGHT be saleable but you would probably only get back what you have just laid out on it...
You would, of course, have a car on your hands that you no longer want. As previously posted you could offer it to the forums members as it stands, free for collection. You have reached a decision point. It really needs to go.--- |

I’ll give you scrap money if you want to weigh it in.

I would let Trikey take it for scrap as he will make good use of the good bits

Spares for these cars are always needed. Take Trikey’s offer. Then your car will live on in others

Weigh in
I recently weighed in a very early W reg and with the scrap value at a low currently, I made £55 after paying for a local recovery Co. to bring it to the scrappers.
Best option in my humble opinion, would be offload it to a member from our 75/ZT family, they will ensure it lives on. Good luck |

Do I repair or weigh it in?
The mileage on these cars are only a problem if not looked after mine has 307800 miles to be exact and only reason it’s costing my a fortune is cause it’s never been looked after from what I can tell but my last Tourer had 260000 miles and it never missed a beat till put 2 Rover P6 engines in the boot what I don’t recommend 😂
I personally would save it even if it’s not your main car always good to have a backup but at the end of the day it’s your choice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
