Bought a Sportage!
As my 75 days have probably (see what I did there?) come to an end, I've been out and bought a Sportage this morning. It's a 2WD 1.7 diesel. I've had a good look around it (including underneath, which surprised the dealer!) and it looks pristine (for a 12 reg). They are currently doing an MOT and a service, which I was going to do myself, as they wouldn't shift at all on the price. Not surprising really as it has only done 48K. The ride isn't a patch on the 75 but it is so easy to get in and out of, which was my main reason to change.
The car I was supposed to look at this morning was given to the seller's sister in law at the last minute! The one that I have bought was my second choice (as it was too expensive!!!). Hey ho! I'll keep popping in to say hello and catch up and keep you informed of the joys (or not) of Sportage ownership. Keep on Rovering and don't be surprised if you get a wave from a spurious black Kia on your travels. Regards and thanks to all for putting up with me for so long , Mike

My neighbour across the road has just bought a 20 plate KIA Sportage in metallic Blue, almost Trophy Blue. He’s very happy with it.

Well, here we go again! On my test drive, I noticed that the clutch had a low biting point, so mentioned it to the salesman. He told me that "they all do that" and that "anything that needs doing will be sorted on the service"! He rang today to say that the car had just had an MOT test and needed a wiper blade and the handbrake adjusting. I asked about the biting point on the clutch and he said "The mechanic says that it is OK and a lot of Kias are like that!"
In my opinion, it needs a new clutch kit (probably just the cover but if the box has to come off???). I doubt that they will do it for me. The car is otherwise pristine inside and out and looks like it has been garaged all its life. I'm tempted to get my deposit back and walk away but I really don't want to lose it (48k miles only). I could probably drive it as it is for years (once I get used to the low bite) and a clutch wouldn't break the bank. I'm just peeved that I'm paying top dollar, to a dealer and it's not 100%. It's not going to be ready until next week either but that will save me a month's tax! Just my luck!

The warranty, as we all know, is not worth the paper that it is written on. I believe it states "parts only" and labour to be paid by the customer!!!
Their standard invoices also have a phrase of "defects may be present consistent with age and condition"! No joy there then! Consumer protection states fit for purpose and it is driveable, with no slipping or juddering. I spoke to a local clutch specialist who said that it is a gamble. A "rough driver" could soon destroy it or, for me, it may go on for years! Another chap in there said "ticking time bomb!" A LUK clutch kit is around £125-150 and they are on the ramp for 2-3 hours max. Mr Clutch quote is £449.66. More negotiations methinks!
