Email reply from Shell:
There is no real expire date for automotive engine oils. Shell gives a guarantee of 3 year for unopened recipients. But if stored in good conditions (dry, away from sunlight or cold) the products can be stored more than 5 years without any issue. I was given by a neighbour a can of Duckhams 20w50 that he had in his shed from about 20 years ago. The next time I changed my oil on my classic car I used it, what a difference, the engine was noticeably quieter and seemed smoother, I suppose it was because it had a decent amount of ZDDP in it.

Can't you use Duckhams in your 260 as well?
Interesting article here (note the para about Rover V8s) (the old one presumably) - https://www.duckhams.com/zddp-what-does-it-all-mean/ |

Duckhams, had an issue with condensation years ago if the engine had not been on a long run and gotten hot.
