Cool MOT Fail Causes

My 75’s generally have a good record on MOT’s
Having looked at the MOT histories of my 75’s they , generally , have a good record – pretty solid cars. Of course one expects some areas to deteriorate eg Exhaust boxes , brake discs but , in particular I do see MOT fails due to gaiters/dust covers – especially :-
• Drive shaft CV joint
• Front Upper Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover
I take it that this second item is the one shown as item 12 on the Rimmer web site. Problem is that this is no longer available and I can’t find it anywhere. I understand it does come as part of the package if yoy buy an Arm from DMGRS ( splendid organisation) but this means you shell out a lot of money. I do find some , apparently ‘Universal’ gaiters on EBay BUT they then come up as not compatible for 75’s!
I can’t be the only one needing these gaiters – so what do others do. I want to buy some spares.
All the best.

Thumbs up Update

Hi Stu,

much appreciate your link which does give me access to good range of CV joint Gaiters.
As regards the other main MOT failure I have encountered – Front Lower Arm ball joint gaiters/dust covers I have , at last , found a splendid source for these at £3 each :-

• MGBD Parts at
• shop.roverp6cars.com

The Gaiters I wanted are to be found at :-

http://shop.roverp6cars.com/epages/e...ont_Suspension

The gaiters come with the special 'O' rings for fitting too.

I spoke to the owner , Mark (01902689975), who is an enthusiastic member of our club with a Saloon and MG ZTT .

Although originally set up for Rover P6 , MGBD specialise in all makes of Rover and Mark says they can normally locate most parts for the 75/ZT etc range.

I have ordered a number of the gaiters I sought and give the references above as a record in the hope they will prove of value to other members of our club.

All the best.
