Default Tourer tailgate opening switch intermittent

This includes the dash switch at the bottom of the driver's side A-pillar as well as the tailgate and rear window switches. It all usually works for a couple of days then packs up for another day or two, rinse and repeat.

I've not had a chance yet to test the dash switch but even if it's faulty, that wouldn't prevent the on-board rear switches from operating. Any common issues I should know about? Thanks.

Dougie.

A break in the wiring where the loom enters the main shell at the top of the tailgate is usually the cause of this.

You might be lucky and just have corrosion in the connector behind the tailgate glass trim though.

I have a tailgate wiring harness in my garage somewhere. I bought it for my old tourer that had a similar issue, but never got round to fitting it.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks very much for that. I'll be on it over the weekend so depending on what I find, I'll get back to you.

Hello Dougie.

Did you ever find the issue with the tailgate wiring by any chance?

Thanks.

Ben.

Ben.
I replied before noticing that this is an old thread of mine regarding the tailgate front switch. In fact, I posted a new thread a couple of days ago about an intermittent Tailgate Not Closed warning light which has just started, so my original reply to you here a few minutes ago would have made no sense!

I did fix it but I just can't recall the solution. I'll try & remember & update. Thanks.

Dougie

It is heartwarming to read such things, makes you feel all not alone, does it not.

If you mean there's solace in knowing other brains have dead cells, then yes.

I still can't remember.

I managed to find the issue with mine, causing the car to think to boot was being opened randomly, draining the battery and setting the alarm off.

Condensation in the car had found it's way into the loom connectors.

Temporarily fixed by cleaning and drying, but likely I will need to replace the male terminal connectors due to the damage.

Does anyone by any chance know a part number / where to buy the male terminal connectors used in the tailgate connector loom please?

I've had a look here, but not 100% certain this is the correct part.

Thanks in advance.

Ben.
