Looking through some old pics and just three years ago I was paying 52.9ppl for red diesel. So it's over two-and-a-half times as expensive now.

The fuel boat Callisto stopped by today to top my tank up and we chatted about various fuel-related issues. Apparently coal will be £80 a tonne more this year because much of it used to come from Russia and Ukraine and that has now been replaced by coal from Australia, with the attendant shipping costs.

That's perfectly understandable. Transporting stuff half way round the world is a great way to get things we don't have locally..... Oh, shock, horror, we do. But only a little, so it wouldn't be worthwhile digging it up ourselves - I believe about 300 years worth.

I suppose that as imported coal becomes more expensive it will become economically viable to re-commission closed mines here in the UK. I imagine that the sanctions against Russia are here to stay.

The former pit near me had 100 years worth of coal left when they turned off the pumps and closed it.....and that was just what they knew about.
