Default Rover 75 1.8 Battery Replacement

Afternoon,
I need to replace the battery on my 1.8 Rover 75.
I am looking for a battery with a 5 year warranty.
Two options that I have found are Varta Silver and Powerplus Advanced XD Supreme. I'm sure there are others, Bosch etc.
The Varta 075/D21 is £72.50 and the Powerplus 075 is £56.95 or the Varta 096 is £87.99 and the Powerplus 096 is £69.95.
I have Varta batteries on my other MG/Rovers but I was wondering whether anyone had any views on Powerplus and also whether I should get the 096 battery even though it is slightly taller than the 075 battery?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards David

I can't offer any opinions on branding, but I'd strongly suggest getting one with the same physical dimensions as the old one.

I can tell you that the Bosch 5 year battery for our cars does fit, because my friend has one in his. I have a Bosch 4 Year battery in mine, and it is 7 years old. Good batteries are Bosch.

Hello David,

That's fine but here is the secret of long battery life. Are you ready?

Keep it fully charged at all times.

Now of course everybody believes that their battery is always in tip-top condition but few are. Short journeys are a killer, as is moving the car on and off your drive when a cold start is required. If that's your pattern of usage then invest in a smart maintenance charger and leave it connected (if you can). You'll find that your 'ordinary' battery will have an amazingly long life.

Simon

Have you thought about popping along to Andrew Page in Durham, get the battery much cheaper, I bought one from them over 5 years ago for my MGF (Varta), and it is still going strong, and once a quarter, put it on charge with my CTek charger, and it starts the car first time with no problems

Hello Simon,
Thanks for letting me into your secret.
Kind regards David
PS I'll look into a "Smart Maintenance Charger" as well.
