Ironically I feel diesel ones will become the rarest when diesel taxes make them unaffordable to own or as they are traded in for scrapage, plus I find diesel ones (certainly over here, are usually mega millage).
Look at likes of old mercs, everyone goes mad in Europe now for diesel examples even over the big v8 and 6 cylinder stuff.

I have thought about this many times, what else could be fitted as I have a diesel as well.
My thoughts would be to go for a honda vtech which is front wheel drive. For me it would have to automatic but my dream desire is the Typr R engine, not that one can be retrofitted with an automatic gearbox as far as I know. As for the Mustang engine that Rover originally fitted, not a chance there are far better v8's than that one. Would look at the Chevrolet V8 or Dodge V8. As Trikey mentioned fit the best diesel, the Dodge Cummins. Imagine a 400bhp diesel

we had alot of people drop in 350 chevy v8s into jaguar xj cars here due to reliability, power etc but there was plenty of room and not as many electrical systems in them so was pretty straight forward.

What about a VAG R32 engine, fwd, compact V6, 250bhp, get an engine and box for a grand, run it on a standalone ECU and let the MG ECU run the rest of the car. If 250 isn't enough there are kits to super and turbo charge them.
