Go for it Bri - had one back in the day and they are great cars. Only paid 50 quid for mine as it needed a clutch putting in. Luckily my uncle had a transport business, so I did it over his lorry pit. |

Fitted an undertray to the ZT
It's an experiment nothing more, I wish to prove a point to myself that these have no bearing on fuel consumption or cabin noise. I have my data logger plumbed in with four microphones, and will fill the car tonight noting the pump number at the station, and see what the results are over the next 1000 miles or so Brian |

This is the first time the car has had an undertray fitted in over five years, the original one which had always lived behind my shed, went with the duotone when that went overseas to live with Sean "75Driver"
I'm not a huge fan of these things, as they hide evidence of leaks, and I'd rather be alerted to the early development of a problem than deal with a catastrophic failure. I'll see what the results are. Brian |

When I refurbed the front subframe on the 1.8, I fitted the standard 'Half' undertray, a couple of Months later I did an oil change and noticed that the subframe was well covered in road muck
The half undertray does not keep the underside of the engine clean!

undertray
just been reading these posts re trays - should I keep mine on or take it off?
By the way MB and Trikey, took yr advice and Mr Hobbs will take car in NewYear and Shiner says it needs new rear arms as they are also rusty. At the meet yesterday some members suggested just using rust remover then wax oil, is that a good idea? thanks chaps.

Not bothered about keep taking it off to do oil and anything else to my car. I have seen cars that have attended our nano meets without under trays on, and the difference between them and those that have an under tray On is very, very noticeable. Not just dirty but all the ally parts are going manky. There is no ‘NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-’ on the bottom of my engine compartment or around the top of it. I have experimented when I change my engine oil, when I take the undertray off, I leave it off, if the weather is dry, and take it for a spin. I have to be honest, I did not notice much difference with the noise. You probably need a decibel meter to be precise. But I most certainly would not leave it off,no way So Janet, leave it on if you want to keep your engine compartment clean. If you have a catastrophic water/oil leak, you will still see it on the floor, and if you check your car religiously you will not have any trouble. And if you do have to mess around underneath, you will remain cleaner also..
