Default Rover 75 auto diesel mk2 tourer front wheel problem

Hi ,

On starting my rover75 2.0 diesel auto this morning. I put the car into reverse and put the accelerator down as soon as it moved there was a loud clunking from the front end as though something had dropped or come away. The front wheels will not move and there was a distinct burning smell from the front of the car.Aux/Ac belts have been done . Any help or ideas as to what it may be would be of great help because I do not want to scrap the girl ,but it's how I feel. Sorry Mk2 tourer

Regards

Jack the car front up and put on stands select drive or reverse and see ifthe wheels turn. Has the auto transmission oil been changed? Is thete any sign of oil under the gearbox? Check the oil level in the box.

Hi ,
I haven't changed the transmission oil myself. I will jack the car up 1st thing in the morning and check for signs of oil.

Hi bites,
There was a bit of coating of something like it had peeled away by the drivers side front wheel, and car feels kind of sloping to the right .. Won't know until I get her in the air and on axles .

Don't start the engine until you have gently tried to turn the wheels. The engine power might do a bit more damage.---

The bit of coating is probably the paint that coats the spring. It fell off when the spring broke. Is the tyre flat or going down? Do NOT turn the wheels under any circumstances. If the spring has broken it could puncture the tyre.
