It always surprises me the number of people that now scrap cars when the MOT runs out without even submitting them for a test. They're just disposable. I don't see any reason why those of us that want to shouldn't be able to keep using a 75 regularly. I still use one daily and, despite having a newer car, intend to carry on doing so. Someone put the thing together in the first place so it will come to pieces and go back together again if necessary. And it will do anything I ask of it.

I do hope you realise that the OP of this thread was started in 2017.
Thankfully I don't have any water leaks, never did, so not bad for a 17 year old car.

A couple of days ago we had the most torrential downpour I've seen in years, it was literally hard enough that it scoured by garden path paving slabs as clean as if they'd been pressure washed. The roof of my consersvatory couldn't take it and buckets had to be deployed. But my 17 year old 75 stayed as dry as a bone inside. That is thanks to the work I did on the boot area during lockdown which in turn is thanks to the excellent how-to's on this forum.
Thank you to everyone that offers their time to help and advise. Still a few more jobs for me to do on the car...and I don't mind a bit. |

A nice positive message.
By the way, how is the Saracen's Head doing, stayed overnight there a few times. 30 odd years ago now I guess.

Don't agree
My Rover is the best car I have owned in my 40year plus that I have been driving. To say that its not a usable car after ten year is a bit damning! Mine's 18 years old and currently has no leaks. Yes its had leaks like any other car over 10 years old and I've sorted every single leak. A bit of patience and care is all that it takes! It also depends on how a cars are looked after. If you leave a car on a drive too long without cleaning and polishing, sure enough leaks will appear. A good waxing will keep a lot of water off the car, as it forms silicone's that run off easily. No polish - water and damp stick and any car will suffer water penetration through un-waxed seals in time! My penny worth! QED!!
A good wax is important too. It's expensive but I use copious amounts of Williams Wash and wax. Best wax I've used on any car! Last edited by robbrooks; 10th June 2020 at 13:28.. Reason: after thought |

I have been Driving 75s since launch night. My wife has a saloon whilst I have the monogram spice tourer. With careful looking after these cars should see us in the grave. They are both oil burners so should be good for over half a million miles each, why would anyone buy a new car. I have never had to spend more than £500 on either car in a twelve month period.
If I was to buy a new car I would be looking at spending well over 20k to get anything that might come close to the Rovers level of equipment and comfort. A family friend buys a new car every two years, like us he is retired. He usually buys on a 0% deal and has being paying £220 per month for the past forty years. It would take a very big problem to rack up a bill that size. I can’t see any reason why with a little TLC both our 75s won’t still be on the road in 2040. Probably the best car ever to come from the British Mark. Alan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
