Default HID Conversion kits

After the great "how to" on how to upgrade to HID, took the plunge and ordered some from Hong Kong

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-XENON-CONV...QQcmdZViewItem.

just look at the price, delivered in 5 days, fitted in about 1 hour, improvement is quite spectacular.

Glad to see another happy HID-user. I was quite shocked when I discovered my car had HID's fitted - I thought I'd got regular Projectors until I read the part numbers on them and discovered they were Xenon HID lamps.

You got any before/after pictures for comparison of your new lights?

I installed a kit not long after buying my 75 and it's a doddle to fit I must say.

And with having Xenon's on my old car, going back to normal bulbs was just not on as you really notice how yellow and dull they are in comparison

Sorry no photo yet but there are some on the original how to. As for installation. in a nutshell: Unplug existing blub and save, plug connector that went to bulb into wires that go to new ballast unit. Wires that come out of ballast unit connect to new HID bulb that is a direct replacement for your old bulb.

Do a search for HID in the "how to" forum, pictures are there, hardest part, fiddly bl**dy bulb installation (as always) No wires to cut, solder or join, ballasts can be secured by screws in existing brackets or velcro as other how to suggests.

Thumbs up

I've just fitted a set from the same supplier. Arrived in 5 days from Hong Kong with no problems.

They were a total b*****d to fit though. I took the existing H7 bulbs out (facelift projector lamps) and saved the metal clips. I couldn't feed these over the new bulbs so I had to detach half of the wires. Then I couldn't get them to locate properly (the plastic base of the HID bulbs is thicker than the metal base of the normal halogens) and ended up taking the bumper off, lights out and then bending the metal flanges within the light units so that the new ones would locate.

Once fitted though they're excellent, no problems so far although there is quite a defined cut off which I think is a tad low. Even on setting 0 it's a bit low so I may adjust the beams (or have them adjusted) to throw the light a bit further.

Car now looks the business (although the W5W parking bulbs which originally looked a bright whity blue now look a dirty yellow colour).

Excellent "How To" article by the way, this was most useful.

So these kits are NOT direct bulb replacements for H7s in facelift lamps. This seems to support some of the stuff I've read about not fitting HIDs in holders not designed for them. I know it's been discussed before but it's clearly not all plain sailing.

Default H7`s.. and or H1`s

Hi everyone

Looking at this and other posts has got me thinking about hid bulb replacements. Most if not all replace the h7`s... but what about the h1`s?
Is it feasible to replace both?
I understand there is quite a grey (unlit) area regarding the D.O.T and wonder if this infinges further.!
Has anyone replaced all four? I'd like to hear your views please.

Lastly.....great how to and specs guys, well done and many thanks.

The H1 bulbs are for main beam and fogs.

Although possible to fit H1 HID bulbs for the main beam it would cause problems as the bulbs are not designed to be switched on and off in quick succession, e.g. flash main beam or beam on / off / on as you would when in use. If they were then the safety override in the ballast units would operate which would result in no main beam for a period of time until the ballast unit reset itself.
So feasible yes, but practical a definite no no.

For the fogs though, this should be possible although I don't know whether the bulb holder would allow.

Cheers.
