Default Help please non MGR

My Dispatch van seems to be in limp mode, it suddenly won't go over 50mph and is chucking out black smoke when flat out. Have disconnected MAF and tried a different one from a friend's van, no difference with either, local garage diagnostic machine said air intake temp sensor and MAF, but I have proved that to be wrong. Can anyone help, all I have done is replace the radiator, and the flasher relay over the last few days. All was fine yesterday, today its all gone belly up.

You've probably already investigated Rich - but EGR valve?
Son's 2.0HDi Picasso (engine from the same stable as yours) had hopeless problems until we replaced the vacuum pump on the end of the camshaft. That pump supplies the vacuum necessary for the EGR to work.
Also, disconnect any electrical connectors which you disturbed in changing the radiator and re-connct them to ensure they are all making a decent electrical contact - especially the MAF connector.

Possibly a split intercooler hose, that makes Fords go extremely smoky.

Done it, the only thing I can think is this morning I noticed one of the heater pipes was seeping water, and the hose clip was not making contact. Pushed pipe back on and secured clip, checked the wires around that area, all intact.

Richard.

How did you check the Air Temperature Sensor ???

It sounds like you engine is stopping in cold start mode.

Perhaps a faulty electrical connection to the sensor.
