Possibly - Just possibly - '52 75 Club SE FS:
I'm off to Uni in september and thinking about trading down to a 25. However Id only sell my 75 if I know it would be going to an enthusiast. Otherwise she's going nowhere.
The car in question; 2002 1.8 Rover 75 Club SE with intelligence pack (rain sensing wipers, on board computer, parking sensors and auto-dimming rear view mirror). Taxed for 12 months and will be MOT'd for 12 months. 61k on the clock. In december 2008 she recieved (after having detected at an early stage) the new modified HG. At the same time it had new belts (Cam belt and other auxillary belts) along with a FULL service. This was done at an authorised XPART dealer that has the MG franchise. I have a total bill for £800. It still has over three months warranty left on it. I have the recipt to prove this. The car has always been serviced by myself but was serviced by Paramount (where the car was a demonstrator model) back in 02/03 and 03/04. On the project drive side - the car retains twin tone horn, driver's side grab handle, leather & wood gear knob and leather handbrake. The car has been retrofitted with a ZT grey alcantara interior (and door cards) soft-feel black leather steering wheel rim, chrome wing mirrors, symphony head unit and CD changer. The car has recently had the front bumper fully resprayed and rear quater by a local bodyshop whose owner drives two gorgeous cowley 75s. That cost £370. Tyres are all safe and legal - having been replaced all at the same time about 18 months ago. Couple of little scratches here and there - but main damage is a (slightly less than) one inch scratch on the bonnet. Car runs superbly with no knocking noises or rattles. The only noise I have at the moment is the leather squeaking against the arm rest console but that will be remidied. Pics below; Offers would be invited in at about £2500 This isn't something I do lightly. I do fear that at uni that she may get damaged and that I wouldn't be able to maintain her properly due to a restricted budget. But I'd rather battle on , eat less and worry about money than put her on ebay! Last edited by red_rover; 24th August 2009 at 19:39.. |

Hi, good luck with your sale, but just a thought, if you think you'll save money by going down to a 25, I had an MGZR 105 that I drove gently, mainly duel carriageway work and it returned 38mpg. My old 1.8T 75 returned 38mpg and if you factor in your new head gasket on your current car, it may make more sense to hold onto it, as its well maintained and you know the history.
Only an idea but whatever you decide, good luck with it.

Hi mate
Think you be best to keep her as you know the service history and the condition of her, having a years MOT and Tax will be of good benefit to yourself You could end up with something that will let you down and be very unreliable Am going to hang on to my 75 as long as I can

If I was in your position I would hang on to the car at least you know its been well maintained and looked after. On the point about the 25, I had a 1.4 before my 1.8 75 and the fuel economy is not much better, insurence was only about £60 cheaper than the 75. The logical thing to do would be to keep the 75 but thats what I think.

Echoing what the others have said, you remember that 600 i had in Swansea....i had all the work done to it but kept it because i knew it had been sorted - you dont want to start throwing money on possible problems on another car with a tight budget!

Thanks for all your contributions. Its a really tricky case.
If I sold my car I could potentially get a decent, looked after R8 and pocket £1500/£2000 which would help immeasurably or buy a decent little R25 and maybe pocket £500-£1000 which again would be nice. Or I could buy something cheap and japanese like a Bluebird which would free up LOADS of money and be pretty much bullet proof. But at the same time. I've owned my car for 4 and a half years come September and I'm rather attached to her I must say. |

That says a lot in itself, I have never had a car for more than 3 years but I think my 75 will be around a long time, could never part with such a car No other car can match the 75

As everyone in the thread has already said - keep the 75. I've had two Rover 25 1.4s and a 1.6. You're not talking a lot of difference in MPG and the difference in build/interior will be a shock
