Ah, I see - thanks.

The reason I ask is that one of the captive nuts on my subframe (a new one) started to spin when I did a 'trial run' off the car. The cage is made too weakly and it distorts as you torque up the bolt - the flat part of the captive nut forces it out of the way and that's what causes the nut to spin.

I managed to straighten the cage by levering it back into shape and it held on a second test, but I'm not certain it'll do so again. Do you think I could get the subframe & all 4 arms onto the car if the arm with the dodgy cage is already fully torqued up to 89ft-lb/120Nm?

That way I'd know it was ok before I refit the subframe.

They do say they should be torqued up with the car back on its wheels, but if you did it with the arms at the right angle (same as when it is sitting on its wheels) i cant see why not. The key would be to find out what angle is the right angle. Maybe you could compare with another car?

Hmm, could be tricky.

There aren't any within walking distance. Maybe somebody's got a pic I can gauge the angle from. I've got a factory pic of the underside of a V8 somewhere but the angles might be different on V8 cars.

Para 2 (overview) seems to confirm that it's all different on the V8. And 4th para under steering & suspension.

That is a nice car - drool.

I am not near my cars at the moment but should be easy enough for someone to get you some reference dimensions from their car.

How about this diagram to show what's needed - i.e. dimensions A and B should give the correct angle (near as makes no difference)?
