The only speeding fine I got was in Switzerland - 3kph over the limit, so just under 2mph in real money.

One other thing to beware of with the autostradas; one of our engineers was a bit too quick between entry and exit and the ticket machine picked it up when he tried to pay for the journey.

You have to be careful in France if you use the toll roads when going to Le Mans. The police on motor bikes hide anywhere, and as you say, if you ‘up sticks’ between each toll, you stand a very good chance of paying through the nose. We saw around five TVR’s in a rest break area, and they shot off about five minutes before we left. Five minutes later down the road, all five had been pulled over by two police on m/bikes.I don’t think it was to admire the car either.

The French are grasping at any revenue they can get.
Go to France and join the Gilet Jaunes!
Even the police can see it is ridiculous. They have had more than 50 police suicides this year. Clearly they know they are defending the indefensible.

serious problems it seems.

Ah that is very bad luck indeed, the French are very much about applying the law on the highways, especially regards to foreign drivers, so not in the least surprised.

My experience is the French hate none more than the British. They still resent the longbow... They all remember why many hills are only decorated by a deserted church. Your good Christian ancestors burned everything around them but kept the churches intact.

I don't go to bat for the French than any of our erstwhile allies but think the enforcement of speed limits is pretty average all over Europe, just try to keep to the limits and I know we all get caught sometimes but as a man who should have known once told me "no one gets caught first time" Chris.S.

Well I think some of us are in for a shock. This morning, plop, plop, two envelopes from Nederland on the door mat. One for 212.00 Euro, and one for 41 Euro .one for doing 85 km in a 80 km zone, the other six minutes before doing 102km in an 80 km area. Both on the N65 near Tilburg. This is on the way home. I have asked for a photograph. Not had a speeding fine since around 1975. Good job I was not doing the ton. Got to be paid by 29/11/2019 and 2/12/2019. Have to get the printing press out again.
