Depends which MP has friends on the board of directors...

I suppose once we are out of the eu, the government will be able to do what it pleases in such matters

Yes - it will have more freedom to help key industries. But let’s not forget that despite EU rules - Belgium bailed out Sabena for years before it finally went bust. The EU looked the other way.

Similarly the Italian government gave Alitalia millions to try to keep it going - despite being told rules were broken, the EU looked the other way.

And very recently the German Government gave the German arm of Thomas Cook - Condor - the sum of €380M to keep it going - and here the EU were well aware of it and so far have done nothing.

Interesting precedents......

Indeed some obey the rules others don't. Remember the Alitalia pantomime, went on for ages didn't it? Are they still going?

It’s now reported that Flybe is just hours away from total collapse

Edit - looks like the slump in booking due to the Coronavirus scare was one further problem too far.

Their request for State Aid was turned down earlier today.

I read this earlier, I think a few more will follow, I can see a downturn in travelling because of this.

Personally, I'm sad to see the demise of FlyBe. I used them to travel to Southampton to see my family and friends, just an hours flight time from Newcastle.

My consolation, is that I can travel there first class...in my CDTI 75.

No real surprise. Haven't made any sort of decent profit for yonks. Shame for employees of course.

Looks like there will be another fly in the ointment on the horizon for aviation with higher green taxes!.
