No need for apology, nothing in yours but fact and that is not opinion - offensive or not.
Shouldn't History be viewed in the context of the times? That is surely the only purpose for it, to be a comparator with events since. For example: Rule Britannia was written in 1740 and entirely about King Alfred's success in repulsing the attempts at invasion by the Vikings and the subsequent slavery as they had done elsewhere. At a time when Britannia was the name (hence Britain)it was a self-affirming joyous chorus of triumph over an adversary. Set aside from the issue of the abolition of slavery some years later, the raucous protesters in this case have deliberately misinterpreted and misappropriated this medieval work and usurped the real and understandable rejection of slavery! Shot in both feet.

The link unfortunately fails to mention the influence of Sir Edward Elgar who’s Pomp and Circumstance No. 1 was latterly used as orchestral support for the modern version. If only History (from every source) was compulsory with every degree! Revisionists at, amongst others, the BBC would be exposed for their banality.

Sounds like calling the new DG what he did might get him promoted for being objective, accurate, and right.
Trying hard, but so far unable to feel sorry for Kuensberg.

It was slavery which gave rise to the investment in the navy and its expansion which allowed it to become the power that it was. The period in history when this happened and the targets for slavery together with the many thousands of sailors lives lost in fighting the culprits won't, I very much suspect, best please those of a certain and a relatively more recent agenda. I refer to the period in history when black slavers raided these shores and those of many others with impunity to capture white people and to enslave them. It pre-dates by some margin events in American history where those of a certain agenda would like the world to think that slavery began. It did not, not even with the Barbary Pirates about which this link informs of. Click

Well done WillyH, a good explanation from the relevant time of why and where we get the misused word Barbarian.
All Modern History is bunkum. It is now written, not by the winners, but by egotistic overpaid would-be journalists looking for a career in TV or having a book to sell that was a treatise for the benefit of their New-World University so-called Professors.
