Default Slack in drive shaft??

I've had this problems since I've had my CDTI ZTT.

There seems to be some slack somewhere in the drive train. This shows itself mainly when coming off the power, say when coming up to a roundabout, and then coming back onto the power as I pull onto the roundabout without coming to a stop. It seems to happen in different gears.

I get quite a loud clunk and a bit of a jolt. If I really ease the power back in the car will accelerate smoothly away but it doesn't take much for the clunk to happen.

Any ideas what I should check?

Have you looked at the lower engine mount? They are notorious for wearing to the point that you feel that clunk. If you leave it long enough you'll feel it as you move off from stationary. That's what it sounds like from my very limited experience.

Thanks.

Where is the lower mount and how do I check it?

Sorry if this obvious but I've no idea.

It's a teardrop shaped metalastic bush bolted to the subframe, and the rear of the engine at the bottom.

The large void bush will be the suspect

Rear bush of wishbones on front suspension can also give a clunking on and off the power. Check for front to rear movement on front wheels.

Anyone tried them ?

Cheap enough to try, and yes it's a Chinese one, and as your car is an 1800, it will probably be ok Martin
