Wash, dry, pre wax cleaner, wax, looks good but really needs clay bar. Not sure it's worth the effort now that I've found every panel has scratches and dents 😀

Washed it, then drove it to Blackpool and back twice and got it dirty again

With such a nice day, decided the time was right to break out the rotary for the Tourer's once a year paint correction. Didn't finish until 6pm so it was almost dusk when the photos were taken.

Default endless nightmare!

I have finally finished fitting new brake discs and pads, cleaning and painting the inner wheel arches and front subframe, and finished off with painting the callipers in red which contrast well on a silver vehicle.
I took her for a spin to blow the cobwebs off and cleaned her out top to bottom, well almost it seems a ladybird has decided to die inside the rear window brakelight! its been there a while its gone yellow.
I just need to clean and paint the rear Z axel and fit new brake pad wear sensors as the originals got damaged, these are jobs for next weekend.
also there are a few marks that need spraying over before P.O.L and the aircon needs re gasing before summer.
that should keep me quiet for 5 minutes!
not to mention the airbags need sorting before the MOT in June

Yesterday and today, tomorrow and possibly Tuesday I went from this

which was a failed idea (duotone interior)

to this

but whilst I was getting ready to reinstall my old centre console and new painted dash parts I thought I would do this

I am in awe of you guys who do the compensator mod, the 'old fashioned way'. I was removing my console anyway, and thought this would give me an advantage. It did yes, I suppose if I was just replacing with a modified OEM one. But in the end I removed the handbrake lever to be able to thread the BMW Mini item through

PS there is so much removed, because I am installing a rear window mounted camera, footwell lights, wiring up the illuminated mirrors, USB charging points and audio jacks in the centre console too

Dropped the gearbox out followed by the clutch, then checked the DMF 15mm relative movement between the masses, so carefully deglazed and cleaned it up.

Clamped the new driven plate and pressure plate together then bolted it to the flywheel.

Turned the attention to the gearbox, washed all of the crud out of the bellhousing and fitted the new slave, then repaired the damaged thread where the muppets who had done the job last time had a mounting bolt they couldn't get back in due to their hamfistedness

Back under the car, reattached the lifting gear, screwed in the M12 dowels and lifted it up under complete control, and with a satisfying plop it slotted straight back in with no fuss or drama.

So bolts back in and lifted it back up and reattached the mounting.

Bad light stopped play, so tomorrows job weather permitting is driveshafts, gear cables, fresh oil and subframe back on.

Yes this job can be done more quickly, but there is always the risk of damaging things if shortcuts are taken, or rough handling of components.

I fully expect this job to last the lifetime of the car, unlike the four years of the previous attempt.

Incidentally the cause of the failure was the release bearing, which in turn overheated the housing damaging the seal.

A productive and satisfying day, with only a couple of little pleasant distractions, which certainly makes a change

This had happened to my car - I was replacing the gearbox mount recently and discovered 2 of the 4 gearbox mounting bolts turning in their holes in the gearbox casing- threads had been stripped - perhaps this is why I was getting some engine vibration into the car. I had an afternoon of drilling out the holes and putting in helicoils to fix the problem. All is nice and smooth now !.
