So, these rust from the inside out ? Mine has started to show rust stains, so I touched it and put my finger through, that's a 2005 75 saloon.

Seems they do, I went to the trouble of cutting a lower section off a donor, which I had rotary wire-brushed and it looked in good condition. Cut though all the spot welds and got it off and brushed the inside too and then held it up to the light, was like a minor galaxy of small pin holes. Served as a good template for the 1mm steel that was to follow.

Regards

Thats why it pays to spray dinitrol cavity wax into the sills via the drain holes and the trim clip holes (if you can get them off without breaking) - however if tin worm has taken hold it delays the inevitable - and that is a welding fix.

But if your sills are OK get them filled with dinitrol. A good indicator of sill health are the jacking pads - if you remove them and they are clean then the sill is looking good - if the pad is covered in rusty gunk you know the tinworm has struck. Usually strikes at the rear of the sill between the sill end and the jacking pad -so always check these regularly.

What a fantastic job. The outer sill was heavily corroded and after Tom cut it open that's when the severity of the corrosion became apparent. Jacking point completely gone and also part of the inner sill. Tom worked his magic and has completely rebuilt the damaged area and resprayed the sill. The final result is superb. Colour matched to car is spot on.
Anyone else who has this problem with corroded sills should check him out.
As promised I said I would post on the forum to make others aware of his expertise.
Tom Hobbs? Got a 'phone e-mail contact/address for Tom please.
What sort of timescale are we talking per side and just a rough indication on charge?

I'm hoping my sills are ok, they seem ok on the outside, and the inside.

There you go - job quality is reported excellent and the price reasonable.

Just noticed the sills on our 75 suffering
What kind of price would I be looking at to pay for a repair?
Tjhobbs looks fantastic but perhaps out of my budget

Tom repaired both my rear sills for £200 all in, he is not as expensive as you think.
