Steering Lock issues

My Sterring lock is not engaging and the key can be hard to get inserted to the ignition.....

This started a while ago, as I don't use the car that much I had no issues with it.

Any ideas on how to fix the Steering lock?????

Also now I find the battery is not holding its charge either... charged the battery up last weekend and now it's flat.

I was wondering is the two are related. as if the car is not fully shutting down...
