Default Diesel radiator fan motor

Just working through the issues in my CDT just now.

There is so much info on here about this and I am confused.

Tested my fan this morning using the demist button on the climate. The fan was not turning.

Can anyone please tell me what parts to test for faults and the best parts to buy to fix this.

How do I know if I have a 2 or 3 speed fan?

Any help appreciated.

A late 2003 model will probably have the later 2-speed system, but to be sure, you must check for the presence of the low speed resistor. This is visible by looking through the front grill and past the fan blades. In the 2 o'clock position, check for the presence of a thin aluminium resistor about 4" long screwed to the fan guard. Use a piece of wood, etc.to turn the fan blades as necessary. If the resistor is there, then it most likely needs replacing. You can get the heavy duty resistors from forum traders, ebay or electronics outlets like Farnell, etc. If you don't see a resistor, the chances are it's the earlier 3-speed motor. In that case, the motor brushes will have worn away. The fix is then more complicated.

New brushes maybe? New (2-speed) fan system?
It's all here on the forum.
