![]() ............................ as I was wearing a visor and not a mask. Tesco’s policy is no mask, no entry. This was at the Tesco’s superstore in Lee Mill Devon. I explained to the security chap that I favoured the visor over the mask. He wanted me to show him proof that I was medically exempt from wearing a mask. It is just personal choice that I wear a visor as I find wearing a mask for a long time makes me feel too hot to concentrate.
But I always carry a mask with me, plus spares in the car. So if I wanted to shop I would have to put the mask on. I said to the security chap what would stop me swapping the mask and visor over once I was in the shop. He explained that if I was caught doing that then I would be escorted from the store and I would be banned from shopping at Tesco’s for life. The security chap then went on to explain that the visors have been proven that they do not stop the spread of the virus. I wasn’t going to ask him to show me proof of this. So I donned my mask, and the security chap said it would be best that took my visor back to the car to stop any temptation to wear it. So off to the car I went and put the visor in the boot. Then back into the shop with my mask on and past the security chap who never gave me a second glance. Inside the store I noticed that some of the staff had visors on plus masks. There was a couple of people with no masks or visors on, I presume they had proof of medical exemption to be able to wander round.

![]() The guard at our local Tesco was turning people for this as well however once in store there was quite a lot of people without masks or just visors. Was a lose refusing entry to couples yet again inside there were clearly a lot of couples in doing the weekly shop I presume either he wasn’t on the door when they entered or removed/swapped when Instore.
I’ll ask my daughter what the company policy is if you like as she is employed with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

![]() A friend of mine was refused entry with his wife at Tesco’s in Callington. They explained that they were shopping for two elderly relatives. So security told them to take two trolleys and follow one and other around the store but keep to social distancing.

![]() I have come across this behaviour before. The thought is the physical drawing of breath past the bottom of the shield causes an induction draught into the pharynx from the descending exhalation of the breath of others and therefore a possible danger to the wearer of the shield and therefore a possible liability of the company to legal redress. Terrified or what.
I believe similar thought processes have applied to well endowed beardies, if you get my meaning. Make of that what you will but at the end of it all are the orders from the company to its staff that masks are the order of the day and must be complied with. When faced with a disciplinary interview with a store manager who - in turn, will be ultra job conscious, - I think I would comply with my manager's instructions. At my local branch of the same firm there was a 500 yard queue from the sanitation/infection stand (where every visitor, with unproven sanitary habits and irrespective of pre-existing infectious skin complaints, waits their turn to handle the single bottle of unidentified fluid or the operating button is never even thought of. I walked to the front of the queue, wearing my Laurel and Hardy face mask (I kid you not, our daughter designed and made them) and the blighter barred me for not sanitising! Jobsworth Idiot.

![]() Security should not bar you from entering if you say you are exempt and a strong complaint to the store manager would be in order.
There is NO definative proof available you are, and been officially stated doctors WILL NOT give letters to prove exemption. There is the unofficial, but widely accepted sunflower badge and lanyard to show exemption but anyone can buy one and wear one as no exemption proof is needed (or even available) to obtain one. I NEVER use those communal santisers for reasons stated earlier and only use my own.

![]() You don't have to discuss your medical business with the door idiot. You say, 'I am exempt', and that is it. Take their picture and ask for their name. You can complain to HQ and explain that you might take them to court for discrimination. Totally appreciate that such a move takes balls.
Alternatively: The only thing these places care about is their bottom line. So shop elsewhere. |

Do NOT take their picture, simply because legally you are on private property, and therefore have to have permission to take pictures (not sure of the legal status of the individual, as a privately employed individual going about their business). Request their name, or employee reference if they will provide it, perhaps at source speak to the manager. Whilst I do not (personally) see any physical reason not to wear a mask, I do experience the discomfort and orientation issue. So please do not take this as any kind of criticism, Bob, because I can empathise with you regarding a mask. I have done one 'big shop' since the mask thing came in, and I cut it short because of how the mask made me feel mentally/emotionally (more anger, and frustration than I would normally get in a supermarket). A visor is not an option either, since I get headaches and irritated eyes with a visor (and goggles). The problem with the stores is, it is their policy laid out by government guidance and legislation, and if you cannot agree to it, simply shop elsewhere.

Almost all say a mask must be worn UNLESS exempt. Trouble is there is no available proof of exempt so security on the door has to make a decision. If person says they're exempt and you believe they're fibbing, refuse entry and risk person kicking off shouting your discriminatory and some sort of "ist" / complaining to management and all the grief that entails (social media etc and bad publicity. Or, as most do Take their word and safe option and just let them in.
