Default Alloy wheel corrosion

Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about alloy wheel corrosion ?

Mine are quite bad, but is it like rust ? does every tiny bit of corrosion need to be removed like rust, or just the bad bits before repainting ?

Pete.

Generally if an alloy is as bad as it sounds yours is a full refurb would be the best idea. It’s not that expensive, dependant on location etc but have seen prices as low as £40 per wheel, although cheapest isn’t always best.
The refurbishing shop would remove tyre, dip the rim to remove any old paint etc, sort any kerbing then a fresh powder coat in the colour of you choice would have them looking like new.
For the hassle of a small repair doing it yourself it be easier getting a powder coated to do it and I don’t think a ‘smart’ repair would be much cheaper
