Re-Map. Insurance Implications.
I was discussing today the subject of re-maps. I raised the matter of insurance implications, and was told that, should it come it it, my insurance companies would never know, as they don't have/never use the necessary equipment to detect such modifications.
I have no plans to have my car remapped, but am curious as to whether insurance companies actually pay attention to such matters. Last edited by Annfield-East; 14th April 2021 at 16:11.. Reason: Correction. |

Of course, an insurer could be aware of posts such as these.

True, but the chances of me having it done are zero. I hardly come into the boy racer class, and was just asking out of curiosity, on the basis that some insurance companies go to great lengths to reject claims, often on spurious grounds.

It can turn a dog of a car into a reasonable car, it can turn a poor tow car into a reasonable tow car. The witness said the Rover 75 flew away from the lights. The insurance assessor thinks, "a Rover 75 flying away from the lights, surly not, let me check the ECU" Why would you not inform your insurance company you have had your car remapped? macafee2 |

Is it worth taking the gamble of avoiding a (possible) small increase in the premium and have the worry that any claim could be declined or reclaimed if the insurance found out.

So does that mean that after a re-map my 75 diesel will be able to out drag a modern BMW 320D away from the traffic lights?

Perfect tourer
I started a thread of my perfect tourer and my MGZT-T auto +SE is almost that. The only - is the fuel consumption. The best would be my spec car as a CDTi remapped to at least 160, preferably 180. I understand from mikeyboy that the manual diesel cars cam only be remapped to 160 whereas the autos can have more. Something to do with the BMW’s crankshaft is a weaker Rover substitute. As I only want auto I would want a big remap.
