Default Steam Clean?

Some time ago I had a guy come round and steam clean the carpets in the house. They were in a pretty shabby state, but by the time he had finished, they almost looked new again. I was looking in my 2001 75 Connie tourer the other day and the carpets are OK but looking a bit grimy.

I am thinking about getting a guy to come and do a steam clean on them - if the price is right. I got the whole house done for £200, so hopefully it won't cost that much and the results might be awesome.

Has anyone else done this? or is there a better way to clean them up other than vacuuming and scrubbing?

thanks

literally about to try our Bissell carpet cleaner on my mats in 10 minutes! Just washed a carpet in the house, so thought I would give it a try. It was officially bought for the house a couple of years ago, but secretly, because it had the tools, the purchase was confirmed because I needed something liek it for an old Passat I had at the time (which was sold 3 days after I bought the Bissell lol)

I have already taken the before pictures, if you (or anyone else is interested) I will upload them and the after shots later.

As for getting someone to do it for you, their equipment will be more heavy duty, but I would be concerned for the drying times, and ultimately the smell later (moisture in the sound deadening below the carpet). If they think it is feasible, and safe, I would remove the seats. Not only will it make it easier, but it will be more thorough.

I don't like the idea of 'steam cleaning' carpets to be honest.

Put it this way..... what is steam? .... Steam is water boiling at 100 degrees C is is not?

Would you put something at 100 degrees C on your carpet??? I know I wouldn't.

I work for a hire company that amongst other things hires out carpet cleaners, and the chemical you add to the water for cleaning states use luke warm water only!

Just my take on it.

This is the best way to get your carpet clean. A bit extreme but works great.

Uufortunately it takes a few days for the carpet to dry out as there is fairly thick foam bonded to the carpet.

Older 75's have proper pile carpet, later models have a non woven carpet that may not survive a jet wash or a steam clean.

Not a 75 carpet but you get the idea.

I've pressure washed carpets on my cars for over 40 years.

They used to be easy to remove but nowadays like the 75 you have the best part of a day's work removing it.

I did clean the one on the diesel a few years back and it came up like new.
I've also cleaned one for another member on here. To dry them out I place them in my greenhouse for a couple of days.

Clf I would be very interested in your before and after photos. We do have a Bisstle cleaner in the loft which we haven't used for years, and I think it has the tools that could reach inside the car.

Wouldn't mind seeing the photos.

Thanks

will do, the mats are drying out now. the dirty water from just three mats was shocking!

The grey part is a bladder that contains the clean water. It is surrounded by the dirty water until it fills.

Rug Doctor. Very good value and extremely effective; Home-Base rent them out. I spring clean Alison once a year. I'll dig out some photographs when I get more time!

they look a lot better in the flesh so to speak. But it was a worthwhile 20 minutes spent. I dont think in 12 years, they have had anything more than a vacuum and covered for 6 years with rubber mats (the guy before me had rubber mats on top)
