The RMs and RTs were starting to be phased out in the early 70s when I was a kid growing up in SW London. The route number 44 I rember for having the new buse, Leylands I think , but the 77 and 77a had RTs up until the mid eighties. I much prefer them as you could hop on and off and the bus got under way whilst the conductor took your fare. 1 and 2 halves please to Tooting Broadway

That's the badger. They were always breaking down if I remember and years later talking to an ex driver he told me that if they wanted to have an easy day they would pull a wire from under the dash and disable the bus, so that they could put their feet up and wait for recovery.

I think it was a shame that London Transport was broken up like that and the closure of the Park Royal works. It was amazing what they did to those buses to keep them in tip top shape. Today half of em are filthy dirty and full of poor panel repairs etc. Can still remember the distinctive engine noise of a RT

Mmmmm AEC diesels made a wonderful sound sadly neither of Dreadnought's RMs are AEC powered..........................JJD has a Cummins C-Series & SMK has an Iveco lump
