As Andy writes above, there isn't a lot wrong with it. The bottom edge of the driver's door and the wheel arches were showing rust coming through the paintwork. I've addressed those.

The attached inspection summary is a thorough and fair one. Not all the items in the report are advisories on the MOT.

To take the car into the next MOT, I would get 4 new tyres, replace front track control arms and have 4-wheel alignment. Plus the rear shock absorbers. Total cost would be about £550 plus oil change & MOT. To take it beyond that, I would want to have the chassis members welded, new discs/pads all around and brake fluid change as well as normal servicing.

I don't really need the car with all the others on the drive but it is just so nice to drive, quite handy as a large estate and above all that roaring V6 sound under acceleration is magic, that I find it difficult to get rid of the old faithful.

You are correct. At one time I was capable of checking everything under the car. Now, so long as I sit on a stool I can just about check brakes, change pads and check any fairly obvious faults such as some gaiters and broken springs. If it involves crawling underneath, there is no chance, osteoarthritis and atrial arrhythmia take that firmly out of my abilities now. Oh the joys of paying for basic work.

Age, health and location don't always make this possible. Photo shows my "workshop" complete with stony road and holly hedge dropping very sharp leaves to lie on. Add to that the normally well driven HGV's and the boy racers driving less well, and the ability to move quickly i vital. I can't!
