mg zt water in oil
Hi Guys....
hope someone can help me out there i have a 54 plate zt diesel 135 the "bullet proof" M47R BMW engine I am getting water in the oil and the header tank is emptying. now the head has been off and pressure tested all is ok here rebuilt with new gasket set so head gasket is ok...... compression test checked out ok.... oil cooler has been replaced..... garage is saying most likely a cracked block.... has anyone got any other thoughts on how the water can get into the oil at the moment its either a new engine or scrap the car and its only done 111k miles which is not a lot for this engine. i really need to get this put to bed now has been dragging on for 3 months. when the engine was put back together and left at tick over to get up to temp there was no evidence of the problem but then tookthe car for a 4 mile run and checked the oil and its grey with empty header take.... any help or ideas very very welcome cheers guys |

am update for you guys
i read some good reviews about Steal-Seal so decided to give it a whirl. invested my £30 and introduced it to the cooling system saturday morning.... flushed cooling system through and followed the instructions to the letter.... drove it around for a few miles sunday morning.... seemed to be running smoother than ever..... let it cool, checked the water and all was well.... went for a good drive sunday afternoon running perfectly, drove around for over an hour and temperature was fine blowing hot air continually...... let it cool off again.... just checked the water level and it hasn,t moved.... so far so good....... |

I'm afraid that that wasn't a good idea. You have masked the true problem. Other members who have used sealing products have regretted it. They can block your heater matrix and interfere with the correct operation of your thermostat. I suspect that your coolant loss was linked with the recent repair work. Simon

thanks for your thoughts Simon...
however my thinking is simple really..... pretty much narrowed the problem down to a cracked block so my options really are limited.... second hand or recon engine this stuff is not supposed to block waterways as it doesnt contain any fillers... i did select the product very carefully.... if it doesnt work or creates other issues i'm no worse off really...... if i change the engine i would fit new rad, hoses and thermostat anyway.
