Default Installing the RadioGuy Double Din

Hi guys.

Got mine in yesterday and started installing today what a weekend present

Ill give a short description to what was originally fitted and where i routed the cables and stuff.

The car MG ZT 190 2003 V6 Petrol.

Fitted Harmon Kardon Speakers with the sub. Headunit Alpine Syphony? anyways the one without navigation. Kenwood 6 cd changer.

Before you start anything with this config FIRST REMOVE ALL THE CD's From your cd Changer.

First step Remove the old Headunit.
  • Unclip the Plastic under the Facia Lip
  • Unscrew 2 screws and pull lip towards you
  • Unscrew 2 screws top left hand side of the unit and top right
  • Do not drop screws behind your dash (i did loose one)
  • As i din't have the unlocking blades to push in the locking clamps for the unit i found that tilting the unit upwards you can bypass the locking pins
  • Pull out the radio and disconnect wires.
  • Since i had a low line and Iso connectors there aren't to many connections for me.

Remove the Kenwood cd changer from the glovebox Yaay i finally i will be able to use the glovebox for more then 1 sheet of paper.

  • In the footwell take of the plastic cover underneath the glovebox.
  • This in my LHD config will show the fuse box
  • Lying in the footwell looking up you see 4 nuts holding down the cd changer
  • These come off with a 10 mm socket
  • Now feed the cable that connects to the cd changer though the hole into the glovebox and gently pull back on the cd changer it should come out slowly but shurely.
  • Revel in the space you have created in the glovebox !! its so spacious

I found removing the glovebox gave great acces to the passenger side under the dash and this is where i decided to route all the aireals.
  • To remove the glovebox open it
  • You will need a Torx bit T15
  • There are 4 torx screws visible take these out
  • The next 3 are undearneath the Velt lining about 1 inch in from the edge feel with your fingers over the velt to feel them.
  • I found making a small cut over the screws enabled me to unscrew them without pulling back the velt and worrying it wouldnt'stick back
  • Underneath on the side unclip the glovebox light. Then slowly pull out the glovebox.

Now the fun part putting cables in. I routed the GPS from the A-Pylar on my passenger side down though a small gap in the plastic then the connector was fed alongside the fuse box towards the center console and fed though the hole where the Old CD Changer cable was routed. The Block part on the gps antenna i fitted about 2 inches from the windscreen and 1 inch from the side of the a-pylar. The cable i could hide in between the plastic of the dash and the stuff that covers the A Pylar.

Now here's where i'm a bit lost. I was delivered an extra areal in my kit for i think TMC and since i noticed 2 arial connections on the back of the unit i figured i should use them both.

One areal connector has the discription ANT next to it and can be seen in sean's pictures the other one is a Cable that comes out of the back of the unit Black with a Female Antenna connector. (figure this is the TMC areal)

So the one that was delivered extra i the same way but instead of going forward i moved along the door rubber upwards towards the roof. I found i could hide the cable since its so small underneath the ruber liner all the way to the back of the car.

Now the fun part and the part i think i made a mistake.

So i plugged everything in the 2 iso blocks no problems then the 3 little combo plugs Blue Green Yellow. (on my original setup only the Blue one was used and was for all the Kenwood cd changer) This is now the Ipod cable.

So i hooked everything up and 3 things don't work correctly.

1 the Steering wheel controls I probablly need to connect 2 wires from the iso block to something else ?

2 The Areal amp is not getting power because my radio reception went to the dogs. Probablly need to wire it up somewhere?

3 TMC is found but can't find a station to lock on for TMC data. I know there are stations that serve TMC data it won't lock on.

Thats how far i got then i lost track between all the colors of wires and i had to put an ipod on the unit and testout the sound. Yes it's GOOD.

Then to test out the navigation Locks on to your pos verry quickly so the position of the GPS areal is good.

Then pop in the matrix dvd and see hear and Feel them shooting eachother so nice.

So i'm hoping somebody can point me in some direction to get these last issues fixed. Since i have no more time to spend on it i've put everything in and put back the glovebox the headunit is in place and ill work on it when i have some more info.

Regards Prom

Default It worked and now it doesn't

Installed the new unit and it worked fine for about 20 minutes.
I left the cd player on and went into the house to get some lunch.
When I came back the screen was dead.
I started up again , but didn,t work out. the icons on my dash flickered and the car wouldn't start anymore.
Pulled the unit out, disconnected it and still the car won't start.
I disconnected the battery and went to my computer. Here I am.
I have checked the connections on the Iso bloc off my car.
The yellow is not wired and the green has 2 wires, one on 3 and one on 1.
The radio I pulled out worked fine on these.

Anyone the solution to this huge problem.??

regards, Kees

It may not even be flat, it could just be that the connection is loose...

It happens on mine sometimes !

Hi Prometheus
Thank you for the stepp by Step,
In answer to your questions:

1 the Steering wheel controls I probablly need to connect 2 wires from the iso block to something else ? First you Need to know if you are direct wired or Infrared. The wiring diagram for the steering wheel connection is on the top of the unit. There should be 2 wires and a ground. I am reluctant to say which are the colors because I didn't get a copy of it before they all went on their holiday.

2 The Areal amp is not getting power because my radio reception went to the dogs. Probablly need to wire it up somewhere? You need to power the Antenna with 12 Volt.

3 TMC is found but can't find a station to lock on for TMC data. I know there are stations that serve TMC data it won't lock on. Is your TMC reception good ? In your HOW TO, Do I understand that you also ran the TMC Antenna to the rear?

Thats how far i got then i lost track between all the colors of wires and i had to put an ipod on the unit and testout the sound. Yes it's GOOD.

Default the mgzt roars again

Eh,,, The battery was flat.

This far the radio works, the cdplayer works with my mp3 cd,the gps works I got my coordinates. Navigation not tested yet.
Steeringwheel controls I have to wire I presume; how?
When I shut off the car the wipers make a wipe;??. they didn't before.

A lot off playing and testing to do.
No manual received for the Igo, is there one?

For the people who cab help me with the wiring: My yellow block is not wired, the green block is wired on 3 with purple/blue and on 1 with
orange/green, that's all.
