I am getting fed up with Ebay, I was after a part for one of my cars a few weeks ago and just my luck it was just up the road. I contacted the seller to see if I could view it before I bid and the following day I was there. The seller then informed me it had sold that morning for a Buy It Now but that was not an option on the listing. Obviously had asked for a buy it now price and a deal had been done.

I buy a lot of stuff on ebay. It really is a case of caveat emptor. Generally the traders are pretty good because of the feedback mechanism. No-one wants their reputation tarnished. Also ebay themselves are pretty good at sorting out disputes and issuing refunds if you use PayPal, which I know can incur quite hefty fees but worth it for the peace of mind in my opinion.

You do get some very weird bidding because there are various software applications which will do your bidding for you, usually whacking in your bid at the last second. Steve-45's method of simply putting in the maximum you are prepared to pay and then walking away is best, as it's easy to get sucked into a bidding war.
