I have never been able to understand why when cleaning the body , people don’t just open the bonnet and, with a wet rag, just wipe the engine bay items over. Only takes 5 minutes or less.

Or even better, for a total time of about half an hour clean the top of the engine to make it look virtually like new start by covering any exposed electrical wire connections and the alternator with torn bits of a plastic bag; hose it down with a spray of water to wet it all; then spray on an all purpose cleaner and then agitate any dirty bits (either a detailing brush or a paintbrush or old toothbrush will do) to remove the worst of the grease or built up dirt; then wash it all off again with water and then its done, mop up any pools of water then start the engine to aid the drying process (remembering first to carefully remove any plastic covering). Voila!
