I have just seen that now you mention it, but as I said I have sometimes seen the grey thin wire connected to the blue/red wire inside the conduit. [QUOTE] Jake strip back the conduit and see if the grey wire is joined to the blue/red thin wire anywhere along its length lets us know please Arctic

Yes, the blue/red connector should now be reattached to its terminal on the PCB (it carries the fan control signal from the car’s main ECU).

Found this photo amongst the large amount I have I really must get round to organising them, as you can see this one too as the grey wire cut at the entrance of the control box, I am fairly that these type of control boxes have the grey wire connected to the red/blue wire inside the conduit. Who knows why Siemens decided to do this, I presume it was them, on request of Rover, maybe to use up the ones which populated all the terminals ? 1

Thanks to the photos which you sent to me ages ago of the components side of the PCBs I noticed that the 3 speed circuit was modified to 2 speed by removing components and connecting the grey wire to blue/red. FrenchMike deduced how it worked. The grey wire was moved to enable the fast speed to run when demanded by the air conditioning trinary switch (normally it would trigger the medium speed which, of course, doesn't exist on a 2 speed fan motor). Engine cooling isn't affected. Simon
