Surely, they are designed to work on hex heads (external hex)? And is that not all 1 tool to fit several different sizes? Will that fit and turn in the limited space of the seat mountings. Can you get a drill straight down into the head? Standard reverse thread stud extractors might then work. Also, at the risk of ruining the bit, can you not hammer an oversize torx, torx+ or Ribe 8 or even Allen bit into the rounded hole? Hammering can also break the hold of the bolt, and allow Plus gas to penetrate.

All very good points there Andrew.

Over the years I have tried this on several occasions with a set sold by Draper. It was useless. Every single extractor snapped.

Would also suggest you get s spare bolt or 2 from a breakers or one of the traders on here so when you succeed you can fix the seat back in 😀

I've a set of those similar to those made by irwin, they are excellent. Never tried them on a hex bolt, but they can grip anything I've set them to.

One of the best tools I've ever bought.

Ok well I have just tried Ribe bits but the simple fact is the seat bolt has rounded off too much now for anything to turn it. Also just tried some of those Irwin bolt head removers. They are no good because they wont fit into the limited space of the seat runner. I think its looking like a dehumidifier as the best solution I think and leave the seat where it is.

As before Mark, go to your local garage have a bolt welded on top and remove, to do this job correctly you need that seat out I should know I've done this 4 times on 4 zt se's when the carpet is out you will have 3 in's of water front to back and you carpet will weigh a small child.

I really do want to do it properly and get both seats out just a bit stumped at the minute. Yes ive felt underneath the carpet and there is an awful lot of water under there. Regret buying an SE now! Just want to say thank you to everyone who has replied to me with offers of help and advice. I may not have replied to you all individually but I have looked at all your posts with interest so thank you all very much. Its much appreciated.

Prepared to try anythin now, I suppose I could cut it off underneath the runner leaving the round head of the bolt cut off and the body of the bolt still screwed into the floor. Then fasten it back down with just 3 bolts instead of 4
yes no maybe or definitely not?!

Definitely not Mark. That is a terrible bodge. Go and wash your mouth out with Gunk at once!
