Do excuse my ingenuity or lack of knowledge but when it reads 6J or 6.5J, what are we talking of?
I've got now 15" crown alloys. When I bought the car one year ago, she had 205/65 R15 on contour alloys. But as 205 are far more expensive here than 195 (50% more!), I thought I had better to fit good Goodyear 195/65 R15 when time comes. Now I've got 195 on the back wheels and another pair on the back burner to fit on the front probably next August or September 2019, just before her next MOT. What could be the difference in term of handling & security, since both of them are allowed from factory? 195 at the moment are doing well on the back wheels, even if I've still 205 on the front.

It's the rim width in inches. The term 'J' denotes the application, in this case Passenger Car. There are loads of data available through a Google: https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-articl...wheel-markings TC |

Thanks, understood.
I got my tyres from Allopneus: they made an offer of 2€ off and free of delivery charges as well. But 1001 tyres is good as well: they are spying & copying each others. To be clear: Goodyear Efficient grip performance 195-65-15 V91 was sold around 48€ (approx. £42.5) apiece. It's generally more than 70€ for the same in 205-65-15. It looks that 205 was factory fitted during the Cowley years, then 195 afterwards. But now practically what about my main questions? Does it make much difference on my crown alloys?

Does it make much difference on my crown alloys?[/QUOTE] Well apart from filling the arches better there's no major benefit or loss dynamically. My first 75, (a 2.5 auto back in 2001) came with 195/15/65 which I replaced with 205/15 on my first change due to wear. Dependent on tyre manufacturer you may find the alloys are slightly better protected from kerbing. As it happens my CDTi which is on 225/45/17 will be riding on 205/60/15 crowns in a few weeks. Even with such a change the ride and handling will not change dramatically, a little better ride and a slight loss in handling. Regards Steve |

I thought 'J' as to do with the profile of the wheel itself - some Allegro wheels are 'J' and some are 'C'.
Reading the info I see that profile is known as the 'collar profile', and differs for different vehicles - but no mention of 'C' type. Phased out by the early 1980s perhaps? Interestingly there are variations of this collar profile between 75 wheels - early Crowns and Unions have a ridge inside the wheel, and later Crowns and Unions don't as it is instead a filled in 'hump'.
