Very Sluggish just after filling up nearly stalled
Thought I was in big trouble earlier low fuel light came on so I whacked in a bit of diesel.
Drove a few mins down the road to pick up my other half. Upon restarting felt very sluggish thought it was going to stall so had to blip the gas and stay in first then second got almost home then she came back to life again. Could this have been the famous fuel tank and sensor I have heard about ?

If you run low on fuel like that again, always prime the car properly after filling up before starting it. Key into position 2, and let it hummm away for around a minute. I do this 3-4 times then it starts up nicely. As mentioned as well, it could also be your in tank pump has gone. If that’s the case, keep the car above a quarter of a tank until you replace it otherwise it can cut out on you.

A blocked PCV filter will have no effect on stalling or loss of power - as its name suggests the valve only opens when there is over pressure in the crankcase, so when it is shut that would be the same as having a blocked filter.

As already said, most likely a problem with the in-tank pump. But you can survive quite happily with just the under-bonnet pump working so long as you keep the fuel level above one third full. I thought I had this problem about 3yrs ago and bought replacements for both pumps. They're still on the shelf in the garage but I always brim the tank and try never to go below half way. |

Unlikely to run down to fuel light on situation though if the ITP is failed though isn't it? Not sure that the PCV filter will have such an effect - but to be on the safe side open the bonnet and look at the dip stick - if it's lifted (i.e. not fully down in it's tube) then the PCV is blocked - change it straight away. Shouldn't be necessary unless it actually runs out of fuel. (assuming of course everything in the tank is functioning as intended.) The fuel pumps and lines will remain primed. Quote:
Relatively easy job and cheap enough to do at the annual service. Quote:
Hi Mike - didn't know there was an actual valve feeding the PCV? Thought it was just a plain old crankcase breather with a filter at the top? Should be balancing the air pressure with every engine cycle.
