(I think I damaged the first one fitting it, and it would never go beyond 80 on its first cycle, and then 78 thereafter - the second was 82, but it had a serious amount of leak by).

Wahler do a 92 degree version, but I have yet to see it at a reasonable price. I have an 89 degree version (3029.89) and temperature is always around the 86-88 range once warmed up, and I think I fitted that one 4 or 5 years ago now. I have the digital temp display fitted in my console, to monitor the temp.
I did a little bit of looking around and I see Hella make one at 89, silly price at almost 40 quid, lots of other makes too. As I said when it first went in it would happily sit at 90 degrees, I've ordered another Gates one at 89 degrees but I'm still looking around at others, it will probably turn out to be the cheapy cheap ones that work best ... will see

I’ve fitted the circoli 89 degree thermostats into multiple 75 and ZT diesels and many years later they are still holding up at 88-89 degrees, I always test them in a saucepan with thermometer before fitting just to make sure they open in and around 88-90 degrees. I tend to get them from my supplier for around £8 but they can be sourced here for £11

The big test that I have found is the leak by. Every stat I have used that failed to reach the magic 88 degrees (well 86 by the OBD) have all had serious leak by, they all open at around their stated temps though (the thermometer was not scientific though, but I reckon it wold have been sufficient). Below are videos I have made of testing.

Leak by whilst fitted to hose still attached to car

Leak by whilst fitted to hose removed from car

Leak by with new Gates stat. at the sink.

Leak by with new Gates stat. at the sink 2

Wahler stat leak by, at the sink

They were also heated in hot water to make sure the leak by remain the same before and after at least one cycle of the stat opening. EXAMPLE

remember too, all of these leak by results are accelerated by gravity. When fitted to the car, there is a waterpump behind the coolant which will exaggerate any of the leakage.

Video of camera pointed to rev counter and temp display, showing my drive home from work 1/4-1/2 mile to motorway, 4 miles motorway, the 4 miles of 40 mph, ending with 1 mile of 30mph. All more or less level terrain. WARNING: this video is 25 mins long of nothingness! It shows how the temp moves during a 10 mile journey.

Out of all I have fitted, the Wahler is, if you can describe it as such lol, a thing of beauty.

We've sold well over 1,000 of the FirstLine item, and only had a few come back to us.
Of course we replace without quibble should the worst happen, but it's unlikely.

This is our offering: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rov...98cb5b8a&_ss=r

This is REALLY going to tempt fate, however.

I did this mod in 2012/2013, sometime over the Christmas holidays,
Still with that very same stat, temp still good.

Sorry, can't find which one I bought but it was an 89deg stat

Probably the one I suggested that’s 89 degrees
