I don't think that's what you need and certainly more than you should spend. The answer is in the first line of Post 2. That gets you here:

I’m far from being an expert, but I had exactly the same problem as you at first. I spent days on it, and eventually bought another cable – worked fine first time (obviously soldered 7&8 on both).

There seem to be different chipsets – certainly those in my two cables looked completely different to each other – even though the cables had the same description.

Good luck

...and that's my point. Both cables (yours and the OP's) are in the same blue case; but the chipsets are different. So yours works and his doesn't...

Just to update this thread:

I got the BMW cable and it works fine - I had to change the com port tho. The instructions were on a readme file which came with it. Go to device manager, expand ports, check the USB if it says COM 1 you're fine if not right click on it, properties, advanced in one of the tabs (can't remember which sorry) select COM 1 and change the latency figure to 1. The cable only started working when I did this.

The only trouble is it reads almost everything apart from my airbag module, which is where I have the fault. Mine's a 2005 and having done a bit more digging on here I can see this is a common story - TOAF will read the older car airbag systems but not the newer ones.

As it turns out, in a moment of serendipity, my son somehow managed to kick a teddy bear under my seat when he was getting out of his car seat behind me, and the light has gone off. Hopefully it stays off for the MOT!

No problem reading your later Autoliv airbag, it's just that you need the extra file
"SRS Autoliv Tool" and any version of Windows from Vista onwards, works with Win10 - I've used it on my 2004.

Some years ago, before I got the connectors done properly, the light came on the night before the MOT. Waggling the connectors often worked, so kneeled down in a car park and reached under the seat – after comprehensively jiggling, I tried to pull my hand out again.

Note to self (in the style of a VIZ Top Tip) – when sticking your hand into a confined space, don’t use your left hand, as your watch will jam very firmly behind something, and you’ll make a complete NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- of yourself for the best part of ¾ of an hour outside a doctor’s surgery, till eventually you manage somehow to free yourself again…

Light stayed off and passed the test next day though

PS strange about the latency setting... never ever had to mess with that

Light back on the dash. That's the last time I rely on a teddy bear.

Downloaded that other TOAF file and like magic I connected. I've got an error codes 606 rear centre tensioner - short to ground.

Can anyone advise??

Cheers
