Rover 75 1.8 turbo won’t start
Hi guys
Just at a friends and I’ve come out and my car won’t start at all. I can’t hear the pump prime so I suspect the pump is knackered…? The car in question is a 1.8 turbo MK2 75. If this is the cause of the issue, can anyone please give me a link to where I can get a genuine replacement pump from? Thanks.

Yes, it seems to. I’m almost certain it’s the fuel pump or fuel related.

Rav,
As Trikey says check for power to the pump first, before dipping your hand in pocket. Read this thread in depth, the thread has a number of photos showing the pump assembly in bits and the pattern pump. This thread included a couple of turbo models and your car that I experimented with in 2018 in my quest to get rid of the occasional stutter at full pelt on a heavy load that turbo models seem to suffer from. There is an alternative pump available without buying the complete assembly. You will see the issues I had with it. In fact I think I still have the pattern pump which I never used in the end if only I can find it? https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...1&postcount=35 https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...0&postcount=34 Last edited by Lovel; 19th September 2021 at 08:17.. |

Assuming fuses 10 & 28 in the passenger compartment are good? 12v should appear at the pump connector on the purple/white wire initially for 10 secs or so the pump priming then 12v is switched off until the engine runs. If nothing there go back further to the fuel relay in the passenger compartment there are four mini relays in there , the bottom left is the fuel pump relay, put your hands on it when turning the ignition switch on or listen for it doing its switching.
I have seen the wire for the power supply from the main relay in the engine bay fail in continuity to the fuel pump relay but was fixed with a new jumper lead. Only once seen this though. Otherwise after disconnecting the fuel pump connector at the pump put 12v on connection numbered 2 of the pump and an earth and that will tell if pump running. Study the harness connector to confirm where the purple/white and black earth correspond to the pump connector if in any doubt |

So, the car hasn’t been running for two weeks. The RAC man came out today. He got under the car and banged where tank is with his hand and it came back to life. I nursed the car to the garage. I noticed when pushing the accelerater harder, the car stuttered. The mechanic reckons it either needs a new pump or perhaps the pump has separated. He will have a look when he’s back from holiday so it may be another couple of weeks yet….

If you're not familiar with this, do a simple keyword seach for FFS and you'll find loads of threads. The fix - if it is FFS - is the Fabled Orange Clip (forum search term is FOC). TC |
